Parade
04:02
|
|||
Could've gone the straight and narrow, committed to a goal,
Could've run the race like I had nowhere else to go.
But I struggled from the get-go to attain a sense of self,
And I found it in the journey...
Others did it right, right, now they wonder who they are,
They search the house, the bank account and sometimes at the bar,
for a late-life renaissance to help them cope,
with what they gave up for security...
And I can see up ahead my road comes to a T.
Left or right makes no difference to me.
Looking back, I can't even see mistakes
that I know I must have made,
But I liked the whole parade.
Though I know sometimes I drank from the wrong cup,
at least I grew old before I grew up.
The path we walk is winding, but all along the road
Unexpected blessings came to guide me home
The tragedies and triumphs are the mortar of my life
it paints a total picture...
I chose to follow passion, though it chose to not choose me
and I laugh when I remember trying other futile things
but things left incomplete are the marks I leave behind,
success is just a furbelow...
I can see up ahead my road comes to a Y.
Either way is where my futures lie.
Cause I can't go back and fix
mistakes I know I must have made,
But I liked the whole parade.
Though I never was the big dog, I like the dog I was,
and at least I grew old before I grew up.
When cases come to cases,
I would never try to fix mistakes that I have made
cause it's the music and the madness,
the goodness and the badness,
the love and all the sadness,
It's in the journey...
and I love the whole parade…
I love the whole parade…
and at least I grew old before I grew up.

Share the Light
03:21
|
|||
If I lost you would I survive it?
You’ve covered me with love
but if I scratch through deep enough I find myself
And what could I be for you if I’m not there for me
A face within a mask
Just a shadow that you cast, so…
We can share the light
We can share the night
We can share the way we feel, and
you can hold me tight
We can share the same road till we know which road to choose
but I won’t ask you to walk beside me
till I’m comfortable in my own shoes
There is a calculated risk here
Seasons change like colors on a wheel
and where the wheel stops no one knows
It could be rain, it could be wind, it could be shine
Shinin’ on our hearts or blowin’ us apart, so…
We can share the light
We can share the night
We can share the way we feel, and
you can hold me tight
We can share the same road till we know which road to choose
but I won’t ask you to walk beside me
till I’m comfortable in my own shoes
I’m not tryin’ to say I’m sorry
I hope this doesn’t change the way you feel
I’ve been trying to find me in this mess I call a heart
but until I do, all I can promise you is…
We can share the light
We can share the night
We can share the way we feel, and
you can hold me tight
We can share the same road till we know which road to choose
but I won’t ask you to walk beside me
till I’m comfortable in my own shoes

It Should Have Been Us
04:46
|
|||
The wound is too deep, I can’t recover
Something has broken deep down inside
and it’s too hard to care about anything else but the pain
I know it’s not fair, I know it’s selfish
I’m holding on tight when you must let go
But I close my eyes, and your smile and your sweet voice remain
The hours are agony, the days are slow torture
The years ahead look like a bottomless pit that my life will fall through
And what hurts the most, I’m on the edge
and you’re so close yet so far away
I’ll learn to accept, the constant bleeding
I’ll walk through the things I know I must do
And I’ll try like hell to be happy, cause you want me to
It may be foolish, it may be wrong
but if I could just have you appear by my side, for a moment,
I’d touch your face, say I love you, and finally let go
It should have been us, sometimes you agree
We seemed to click and it shined on us both like a luminous sunset, fated to fade,
you are my heart and you’re so close yet so far away
With each beat of my heart, I’m sending you love
And if there is really and surely a God it will touch you, softly
a tap on your heart, just to remind
I’m so close yet so far away
Sweetness, you are my heart and you’re so close
yet so far away
It should have been us

Fences
05:48

Saw an old bird sitting on a fence, his feathers gray and dusty
seen him there a few times since
He tries singin’ sometimes but his voice is old and rusty
It looks as though he's never moved,
just sits there 'neath the sun and moon
the old boy’s got no place to go, I guess
and I don't doubt he's sittin’ up there yet
Talked to you the other day, just to hear your voice smilin’
You seemed to have a lot to say
I missed your face though, the phone don't show your eyes sparkling
you decided not to go, the day before you didn’t know
A week ago you said you were comin’ home
Did you think I'd wait forever all alone?
You can grow old sittin’ on that fence, my girl
But that ain’t any way to age
It may feel safe, but fences turn with all the world
Making no decisions is still deciding, in a way
Darlin’, fences never hatch out anyway
Dreams can keep a love alive if lovers dream together
But when they dream apart it feels like lies
Warming some old fence post may be fine, if you have feathers
But lovin’ makes the world go ‘round,
And I can’t love what’s not around
And girl, I’d like to turn with all the rest…
not watch it all spin by
because you can’t decide which way is best
You can grow old sittin’ on that fence, my girl
But that ain’t any way to age
It may feel safe, but fences turn with all the world
Making no decisions is still deciding, in a way
Darlin’, fences never hatch out anyway
Saw an old bird sitting on a fence, his feathers gray and dusty
seen him there a few times since
He tries singin’ sometimes but his voice is old and rusty
It looks as though he's never moved,
just sits there 'neath the sun and moon
the old boy’s got no place to go, I guess
and I don't doubt he's sittin’ up there yet

Rain on Sage
05:02
|
|||
I heard the rain begin late tonight
A wet wind came in to play with candlelight
I went out on the porch and played guitar
sang with the coyotes, waited for the stars
And when the rain had washed the desert clean
The moon and stars came out so we could see
the diamond raindrops sparkle on the sage
felt like I'd seen the turning of an age
And though I've been alone forever
If I should be alone forevermore
I’ve still got the rain on sage, and better...
night friends to sing with right outside my door
I know a lady who has eyes as green
as any forest I have ever seen
and when she moves it takes my breath away
but when she's near can't find a thing to say
Sometimes I see her walking in the park
tears fill my eyes and nearly drown my heart
I’ve not a thing to offer such a one
still I watch helplessly until she's gone
And though I've been alone forever
If I should be alone forevermore
still got the rain on sage, and better...
night friends to sing with right outside my door
I watch the people walking down the street
I like to watch whatever I can see
I watch the children playing in the sun
it makes me wish sometimes I still could run
And couples on the street look so young
I almost feel sometimes old age has come
so I go home and cry with my guitar
I've not done well but, not too bad so far
And though I've been alone forever
If I should be alone forevermore
I’ve still got the rain on sage, and better...
night friends to sing with right outside my door

Listen
03:51
|
|||
Girl it seems I’ve only had to live around you, be around
and we go round and round
Nothing new, I found out just today
The thing that I don’t understand is
what intelligent and caring people
have inside to make them act this way
And won’t you listen to me just this one time
Long ago you said you were mine
and I was yours forever and a day
So darlin’ listen to me just this last time
And if you find you just can’t hear the words I have to say
I’ll listen to you girl, and go away
Darlin’ I don’t want to hurt you,
never wanted to desert you, If I had a choice
We never used to raise our voices so loud
I know there was a time when I was
proud of what we had together
whether everything was going well or not
So won’t you listen to me just this one time
Long ago you said you were mine
And I was yours forever and a day
So darlin’ listen to me just this last time
And if you find you just can’t hear the words I have to say
Oh I’ll listen to you girl, and go away
I’ve heard that love can never die, I don’t know if it’s true
One thing I will know forever is this was love with you
So listen to me just this one time
Long ago you said you were mine
And I was yours forever and a day
So darlin’ listen to me just this last time
And if you find you just can’t hear the words I have to say
Oh I’ll listen to you girl, and go away

For Love of Them
03:51
|
|||
To honor someone's love
these things you must be mindful of...
their time… don't take advantage of them
if you wish for them to know that you love them
to show you really care, just be glad they're there
their trust... don't betray their faith in you
selfishness and pride can affect how they view
all the things you do or don't, the things you will or won't...
do, for love of them
(for love of them)
for cherishing their moments
(for love of them)
learning who they are
(for love of them)
showing them by doing...
everything you do
for love of them
Be true... always standing right beside them
when the world tries to derail and deride them
when courage leaves them dry, be the strength they can rely...
on, for love of them
(for love of them)
for staying through the hard times
(for love of them)
knowing what they need
(for love of them)
loving them by being...
everything you are
for love of them
to honor someone's love
these things you must be mindful of...
for love of them
for love of them
for love

Drop Out of Sight
03:58
|
|||
It’s said that love is such an easy game to play
But living day to day is just a masquerade
No two people out there act the same way twice
And sometimes even we are hard put to just be nice
I don’t think I’ve lately heard you call my name
Without attaching to it some regret or shame
That leads to an unsatisfying sleepless night
Sometimes I wish that I could just drop out of sight
But I’m afraid to drink, DeAnne
And drugs just cause more pain than they are meant to hide
The beauty would be marred like trash on summer sand
It seems the best answer is to drop out of sight
And I don’t want to fight, DeAnne
Loud and angry words will only stain our lives
And hating each other is just around the bend
More and more I want to just drop out of sight
It’s said that love is such an easy game to play
But living day to day is just a masquerade
No two people out there act the same way twice
And sometimes even we are hard put to just be nice
But I’m afraid to drink, DeAnne
And drugs just cause more pain than they are meant to hide
The beauty would be marred like trash on summer sand
It seems the best answer is to drop out of sight
And I don’t want to fight, DeAnne
Loud and angry words will only stain our lives
And hating each other is just around the bend
More and more I want to just drop out of sight

I Am Stone
03:55
|
|||
You should have left
You know it now
I never said I'd idly bow
to your dark controlling shades
and the threats you never made
but projected, I'm protected
I am stone
You're too profane
only in time could I be tamed
But in time and time again
your glancing blows were ineffective
I pretended, not defended you...
your subtle nudges
precise lies
and scheming judgments
But I am stone
something you are not
you wear down
misleading gestures
untrue smiles
and murky vestures
But I am stone
something you cannot
wear down
You should have left
You know it too
and bear the scars I left on you
when you turned to walk away
like the threats you always made
I reject them, can't respect them
I am stone
and you are shame
I never asked to join your game
never asked and share the blame
your sad apologies unwanted
not expected, I deflected, you
you cannot break me
I am stone

Some Other Place
04:25
|
|||
She stands at the window looking out
at the stream of headlights gliding down the mountain road
like the tears on her face
I know she loves me, but it’s hard to hold her heart
when I have to be some other place
The oldest is a joy enough to make a family rich
and the baby’s hair is covering the crown I love to kiss
I know they love me, but they can’t even understand
when I’m gone like this
Oooo, some other place
Oooo, I left my heart some other place
We took it for granted
love’s not supposed to die
(Love should never die)
When you already have it
should you have to try?
I feel a part of me is slipping fast away
(she’s slipping through my fingers)
How do you hold on to love from such a distant place?
She stands at the window looking out
at the stream of headlights gliding down the mountain road
like the tears on her face
I know she loves me,
I know she loves me,
I know she loves me,
but it’s hard to hold her heart
when I have to be some other place
Oooo, some other place
Oooo, some other place
Oooo, I left my heart some other place

Don't Settle
03:15
|
|||
Don’t settle, that’s giving up
he may love you, but you need someone you love
Don’t settle for less
don’t settle too soon
Don’t settle your bets when you bet on the moon,
cause the moon don’t settle
What can he give you that increases your heart
A cozy home by a little creek for a start
Devoted puppy, cable T.V.
Is that everything you’ll ever need
You need someone who’s in it for you
Who wants for you what you want for you too
Who seems to know what you’re feeling inside
I always see the truth in your eyes
We traded promises but you didn’t keep your share
Remember my heart isn’t going anywhere
You need someone who’s in it for you
Who wants for you what you want for you too
Who seems to know what you’re feeling inside
I always see the truth in your eyes
Don’t settle, that’s giving up
he may love you, but you need someone you love
Don’t settle for less
don’t settle too soon
Don’t settle your bets when you bet on the moon,
cause the moon don’t settle
Don’t settle for less
don’t settle too soon
Don’t settle your bets when you bet on the moon,
cause the moon don’t settle

It's Me That You Need
04:59
|
|||
You’re not just an “i” to be dotted
You’re not just a “t” to be crossed
When I write for you, there’s nothing to do
but ask if the time is not lost
You’re not just another “I love you”
He’s not just a kink in the plan
My body turns weak, and I feel incomplete
when I think that I can’t hold your hand
I’m up, and then down
Then frozen, then heated
Oh, I’m bleeding like you couldn’t conceive
But I’d live through it all, if you’d give me a call
and tell me that it’s me that you need
it’s me that you need
I’ve never been lost in a blizzard
I’ve never been hit by a train
But I can tell when I’m really in trouble
Cause baby, I’m feeling the pain
I’ve never been stepped on for nothing
I’ve never been dumped for a song
But some clever lover, sang songs from your garden
and broke what I thought was so strong
I’m up, and then down
Then frozen, then heated
Oh, I’m bleeding like you couldn’t conceive
But I’d live through it all, if you’d give me a call
and tell me that it’s me that you need
it’s me that you need
I’m up, and then down
Then frozen, then heated
Oh, I’m bleeding like you couldn’t conceive
But I’d live through it all, if you’d give me a call
and tell me that it’s me that you need
it’s me that you need

Schweitzer Los Angeles, California
My brother started writing songs and that was the spark that started me on my own songwriting course that would last the rest of my life. I chose to use my surname, "Schweitzer," for practical reasons, realizing long ago that pronouncing "Richard Schweitzer" was difficult. "Schweitzer Projects" under the "tindog music & stuff" umbrella is producing songs in the Pop / Pop rock or folk categories ... more
